Painting and decorating a bedroom for a young child isn’t necessarily a simple matter. It’s all about favourite colours, themes and lots of attractive, entertaining details.

It can be tempting to hire someone in to just daub a new coat of fresh paint on the wall, but we can do so much more than that! Here’s a little look at what can be achieved.

How can I personalise a kid’s bedroom?

Should you be lacking inspiration, there are many ideas out there. For example, Ideal Home produced a list of 31 ideas, which include:

·       The use of fun colours that brighten up any room, such as lilac

·       Including any colours you know that they love, especially bright shades as accent colours

·       Add lots of wall décor details, with attractive features such as dinosaurs, wildlife and outer space themes

·       Painting the floorboards the same colours as the walls

·       Matching the painted colours with those of the furnishings throughout the room

Other ideas were concerned with details like the bed, furnishings, toy storage and rugs. You won’t need a painter and decorator for those, but the above suggestions are all things that we can do, giving the room a special look tailored to your child’s tastes.

If 31 ideas from Ideal Home weren’t enough, Homes and Gardens suggested 32. Among varied colour suggestions were:

·       The use of yellow as a bright and cheerful colour

·       For a more subtle look, a ‘barely there blush’ provides a pinkish off-white look

·       Bright and bold colours can really stand out

·       Primary colours should be used in a large bedroom

·       Concentrate on a single colour if your child has a hot favourite

How Can You Work Out What Is Ideal For Your Child?

This list evidently offers a wide range of different choices and it is a good idea to think carefully about what works. There are some obvious things to think about. Is the room for a girl, a boy, or shared? Do they have favourite colours or themes? How big is the room?

With so many variations, the first thing to do is to talk to your child, unless, of course, they are a baby or toddler and therefore too young to tell you what they want.

Once they can speak, they will be all too willing to tell you what they want, although you should be sure to ask them more than once, so you don’t fall foul of disappointment caused by fickle tastes!

Our skilled painters can do more than just paint walls with particular colours. They can add some details, such as fun objects, a bit of scenery, or patterns. This will help bring any room to life and make it a favourite place for your child to be.

Whether you are just moving into a new home, decorating a room for a baby that’s on the way, or you want to change the existing décor, there are many great ways to turn a room from a bland, blank space into a room fit for a young prince or princess.
